TAPLEY-SOPER, Harry (1875-1951)
Stoke Newington 1892; CL Exeter and Exeter UC 1902-1934; CL Exeter 1934-1946
Despite increasing physical handicap he built up a probably unique public library/university college service in preparation for the time when the UC felt able to administer its own. He was an outstanding Devon historian, antiquary and archivist and was active in the LA, being Honorary Treasurer from 1929 to 1935, the seminal years during which the Association's first permanent headquarters, Chaucer House, were acquired. He was made Honorary Fellow in 1935.
